Royal patent naming Lt. Col. Portolá as Governor of Puebla, in New Spain, and referring to his services in California; with appended annotations (Spain and Mexico City) extending through February 28, 1777. Signatures include those of the King, Manuel de la Vega (Notary to the Royal Cabinet), and various officials of Spain and New Spain. Two sheets on stamped paper; with wafer seal (loose).
